Fish Pie

Fish Pie

Ingredients

For the Pie:

  • Fish pieces (boiled with salt and bones removed) – 1/2 kg
  • Oil – 1.5 tablespoons
  • Onion, finely chopped – 1 large
  • Green chillies, chopped – 2
  • Ginger – 1/2 inch, ground to paste
  • Potato, boiled and mashed – 1
  • Tomato, finely sliced – 1

For the Sauce:

  • Eggs – 2
  • Milk – 1/2 cup
  • Water – 3/4 cup
  • Butter – 50 gm
  • Flour – 2 tablespoons
  • Pepper powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt – to taste

Method of Preparation

Step 1: Preparing the Base

  1. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the onions and green chillies until they turn light brown.
  2. Add ginger paste and stir for 2 minutes.
  3. Mix in the fish, mashed potatoes, and sufficient salt. Set aside.

Step 2: Preparing the Sauce

  1. Melt butter in a frying pan, sprinkle flour, and stir gently.
  2. Gradually pour in the milk and water while stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
  3. Beat the egg yolks with a little water, then add them along with salt and pepper powder to the sauce.
  4. Combine this sauce with the fish-potato mixture and add the sliced tomatoes.
  5. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold them lightly into the mixture.

Step 3: Baking the Pie

  1. Preheat the oven to the required temperature.
  2. Grease a pie dish and pour in the mixture.
  3. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and set.
  4. Serve hot and enjoy!
